Tell us your story
I have been a business coach professionally for 9 years. Prior to getting a coaching certification, I coached aspiring business owners “on the side.” I became a coach because I wanted to help others experience financial and spiritual abundance in their lives. I’m motivated by knowing that I was born to do this work.
How did you choose your niche?
I chose business coaching because I have always excelled in business. From my corporate career onward to my Mary Kay Cosmetics business, I know business and when I am operating in my gifts, they grow.
What was your biggest challenge as a coach?
It is a challenge to work with clients who are unwilling to get out of their own way to get results. Sadly, I usually end up firing the client if they are unable to be coachable to usher change into their life and business.
How did you get your first client?
Through a speaking engagement. Speaking continues to be my primary lead generation tool.
I get myself booked to speak. Sometimes I do business development through my speaking engagements where I speak to my ideal clients for no speaker fee in exchange for the opportunity to offer my services to the attendees. This is my primary marketing strategy.
These days, I also have a marketing list and we sell our services online via email as well as I host my own live events.
What is your pricing methodology?
I offer value based packages to my clients. I stopped charging by the hour more than 6 years ago. Through my value based offerings my clients get to enjoy private access as well as access to my online trainings to use in between our sessions. I offer VIP days, group coaching programs, workshops and seminars.
What are your revenue streams, as a coach?
I earn money from speaking, coaching, consulting, writing books, home study programs and live training seminars.
If you had to start all over again, what would you do differently?
I would get help immediately. I waited too long to hire my team members and the more time you spend performing tasks that are not in your area of genius, the more money you leave on the table.
Yes, after you become a certified coach, make sure you find someone who will help you grow your business. Most coaching programs teach you the skills, not the business side.
